Different Types Of Shrooms

Different-Types-Of-Shrooms

More than 180 varieties of shrooms are currently available. Grown around the world, each variety has distinct features and its own level of potency. Among all these types of shrooms, each mushroom contains one of three psychedelic compounds: psilocybin, psilocin, or baeocystin.

There are many magic mushroom types found in nature, but not every shroom is safe to eat. The different potency levels can cause problems for users. You can determine which types of magic mushrooms are safe by examining their compounds.

Psilocybin and psilocin are closely related. When you consume psilocybin, psilocin is created as a byproduct. This is what causes the psychedelic and spiritual effects associated with the different types of psilocybin mushrooms. Baeocystin performs in the same way. Among the different types of shrooms, potency is determined by how many of these compounds act at once. Shroom types with all three compounds would create a dangerously strong effect.

You can look at the mushroom’s spores to help identify the type of compounds it contains. For example, spores with purple-brown or rusty brown colours contain psilocybin. Blue or blue-black spores have psilocin. This is a straightforward trick to help identify different types of shrooms.

With almost 200 different types of shrooms strains available, it can be hard to keep everything straight. Luckily, you don’t need to identify shroom types all by yourself. Instead, explore some of the most popular magic mushroom types with the guide below.

Psilocybe-Cubensis

Psilocybe Cubensis or Golden Caps

Golden Caps are one of the most popular shrooms types on the market. These mushrooms are potent and can survive many different growing conditions, preferring to grow on manure. Younger Golden Caps are bell-shaped with a cinnamon-brown colour. Mature Golden Caps have taken on their iconic gold colouring, making it easy to see how they got their name. An excellent example is Golden Teacher mushrooms.

Psilocybe-Azurescens

Psilocybe Azurescens or Flying Saucer

This type of shroom usually grows in wooded areas with sandy soil. When fully grown, look for a brown or caramel colour and a conic cap shape. Flying Saucer spores should have a purple-brown or purple-black colour.

Psilocybe-Tampanensis
Psilocybe-Tampanensis

Psilocybe Tampanensis

This wild magic mushroom type has a wide, convex cap. Young specimens are brown and turn white-gray as they mature. If you’re purchasing spores to grow, make sure they’re a purple-brown colour.

Psilocybe-Stuntzii

Psilocybe Stuntzii or Blue Rangers

One of the different types of shrooms, Blue Rangers, loves to grow on rich soil. You might find this type of magic mushroom growing in a cluster on new lawns, paths, and gardens. Young mushrooms are olive-green but develop into a yellow-brown shade with age. Spores are purple or gray-brown.

Psilocybe-Caerulescens

Psilocybe Caerulescens or Derrumbes, Landslide Mushrooms

Landslide mushrooms get their name because they grow well in areas that face frequent landslides. These shrooms flourish in low temperatures and high altitudes, such as on mountains and cliffs. Look for shrooms with a silver-blue colouring and a metallic sparkle. These mushrooms have low potency, making them one of the best types of psilocybin mushrooms for beginners.

Psilocybe-Cyanscens

Psilocybe Cyanscens or Wavy Caps

A classic type of magic mushroom, Wavy Caps grow in areas with lots of rotten wood and sawdust, such as lawns, gardens, and forests. Their caps have a characteristic wavy structure that makes them easy to recognize. Young mushrooms are chestnut brown and turn dark yellow as they grow.

Psilocybe-Mexicana

Psilocybe Mexicana or Pajaritos

One of the oldest known shroom varieties, Pajaritos, is reported to be the type of shroom used by the Aztecs. This mushroom is found in meadows, deciduous forests, mossy areas, and any place with rich, fertile soil.

Psilocybe-Bohemia

Psilocybe Bohemia or The Bohemian

Among the different types of shrooms, The Bohemian has one of the most specialized growing niches. These mushrooms prefer living near Alnus, Picease, and Betula trees. Look for conical caps in young mushrooms and convex caps on fully grown shrooms. These mushrooms are dark brown with lighter outsides and have gray and purple spores.

How To Grow Magic Mushrooms 3

Psilocybe Caerulipes or the Blue Foot

These are some of the rarest types of shrooms available. Blue Foot shrooms tend to grow in the exact location for years, producing hardwood debris over time. Their name comes from a distinctive blue colour near the base of their stem.
