Natural Hashish is a concentrated form of cannabis made from the resin glands (trichomes) of the plant. These trichomes contain the cannabinoids and terpenes responsible for cannabis’ effects and aroma. Natural hashish is typically produced by hand or through mechanical methods, like sieving or pressing the cannabis plant material. Natural hashish typically has a rich, earthy aroma with spicy, herbal, and sometimes sweet notes. The flavor is often more intense than regular flower, offering a combination of woodsy, musky, and sometimes citrusy or piney undertones, depending on the original cannabis strain used. The flavor profile may also have a more robust and pungent taste compared to smoking flower alone.
What Is Hash?
Hash is a cannabis extract, made when trichomes, the resinous glands that line the surface of cannabis plants, are removed and processed into a concentrated form. It is usually brown or dark green in color and comes in a brick or ball. Hash is a solventless extract, as trichome removal is done with physical manipulation and temperature changes, not with the use of solvents or chemicals. As hash is a concentrate, its effects will be much stronger than smoking cannabis flower. Hash potency can range from 40-80% THC, depending on starting material and extraction methods, whereas flower is usually in the 15-25% THC range.
How to Smoke Hash:
Hash may be used in a number of ways. Traditionally, hash has been consumed orally, either as a solid or infused into a beverage such as the traditional Indian drink bhang. Hash may also be smoked, either on its own or as a way to accompany traditional cannabis flowers. Some varieties of hash that have the ability to melt may also be vaporized on a hot surface, known as dabbing. When dabbing hash, screens are often used due to the fact that some resins leave carbon residue and will not melt completely, or at all. On the other end of the spectrum are high-quality hash oils (not to be confused with solvent extracts), such as full melt dry sift and full melt ice water hash, which has the ability to melt completely onto a nail, leaving zero residues.
Hash vs. Weed: What’s the Difference?
Both hash and weed come from the cannabis plant. Weed typically refers to the dried flowers of the plant, while hashish is a concentrate derived from the resin.
